The Soviet era
By specifying the Soviet-era art as a particular category, we give it three basic parameters. The first is chronological: its temporary borders relate to the times of the USSR’s existence – from 1922 to 1991, plus the art of RSFSR from 1917 to 1922. The second parameter is the geographical attachment of the authors to the Soviet Union as the place of formation of the personality. And the third is loyalty or adaptation to the official ideology of the state.
But this includes not only representatives of socialist realism that is the main form of the “historical writing” of the era. This includes artists who worked in different genres and directions, which were various during the Soviet period; but those who also fit into established system and were able to realize himself, despite the tightness of the borders of the state order.
