Roman Zhuk was born in Tlumach (Ivano-Frankivsk region). Ukrainian artist.

In 1978 he graduated from the Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts. He worked as a teacher at the Department of Painting at the same institute until 1982.

Conducts active exhibition activities around the world, a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1987).

Roman Zhuk stood at the sources of contemporary Ukrainian art in the late 1980s, along with the founders of the Ukrainian transavant-garde, Savadov and Senchenko.

The original painting style, formed during the 1990s, is based on a careful elaboration of the plane of the canvas and the transformation of traditional genres (still life and portrait) into mysterious stories, with elements of surrealism in the spirit of Rene Magritte and Max Ernst.

The works are stored in the collections of the Lviv Art Gallery, Sumy Art Museum, National Art Museum of Ukraine (Kyiv), Museum of Contemporary Fine Arts of Ukraine (Kyiv).
