He was born in 1953 in a family of repressed by Stalinist regime.
Education
After graduating from high school and compulsory service in the army, he entered Kharkiv Art and Industrial Institute (Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts), graduating in 1979 with a red diploma. The student of the professor, the winner of the State Prize of USSR Boris Kosarev, in 1981 became the graduate student of creative workshops of USSR Academy of Sciences (scientific supervisor – academician, professor Sergey Grigoryev).
Creative path
In 1992 he received the title of Honored Worker of Ukraine, in 1998 – People’s Artist of Ukraine.
In 2001 he founded the Institute of Contemporary Art Problems of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine, which carries out basic scientific research in the field of all types of contemporary art, practical and research activities aimed at the development of professional topical art, the introduction of new artistic technologies and practices.
The artist has a deep knowledge of the state and problems of modern world plastic culture, an analytical approach to the execution of significant themes of history and the present, keen observation and relaxation of compositional imagination and great productivity. Perfectly possessing the line, the ability to build form, color, the master tirelessly experiments, seeks the newest trends in the art of the new millennium.
Artist of a wide creative range, master of painting, still life, portraiture, watercolor works, projects of contemporary art exhibitions, Sidorenko has been repeatedly awarded prestigious awards, including international ones.
The most famous works are: the triptych “Summer”, cycles “Watercolors”, “Women and flowers” (1990-1993), “Cytochronisms” (1994-1997), “Amnesia” (1995-1999); Invasion (1996), Ritual Dance (1997). The author’s project “the Millstone of Time”, which in 2003 represented Ukraine at the 50th Venice Biennale (Italy) and the multimedia project “Authentication”, presented in 2006 at the International Festival “Eastern Neighbors” in the Netherlands, have been a great success.
In 2007 he was a co-curator of Ukrainian project at Venice Biennale, and in 2011 and 2013 – the commissioner of Ukrainian projects.
