M17 CAC launched a new research project about collectors and phenomenon of collecting – “PROcollections”

One of the features of the art market is its opacity. Auction houses are publicly reporting their sales, but dealers don’t depend on this obligation. Throughout its existence, the work may disappear from public view and then emerge in an unexpected place after many years or even centuries. The history of art has many stories, where behind the veil of secrecy figures of collectors and the fate of their collections are hidden.

“A broader understanding of the phenomenon of collecting and philanthropy is important for all art market participants. More transparent mechanisms of interaction and understanding of roles within the market will allow young artists to be more orientated in this ‘ecosystem’, which will help to improve it. The latter, in turn, is an important factor in the development of the country’s art and culture, as it is able to accelerate the influx/outflow of ideas expressed in the artistic form. Therefore, projects that reveal the nature and history of collecting are very relevant now, during the period of forced stagnation”.
Andriy Adamovskiy, collector, philanthropist

Such a research project was recently launched by tM17 Contemporary Art Center. “PROcollections” project aims to analyze the phenomenon of collecting and to identify the importance of private initiatives in supporting and developing artistic processes in Ukraine.

M17 CAC invites everyone to join the project and share their understanding of the collecting phenomenon by surveying them. You can find it HERE

The results of the survey are planned to be analyzed and presented to the public by the organizers in the form of open meetings and public discussions.
