Sarah Lucas (born 1962, London) is an English artist.
She left school at 16, returning to study art at The Working Men’s College (1982–83), London College of Printing (1983–84), and Goldsmiths College (1984–87), graduating with a degree in Fine Art in 1987.
She is part of the generation of Young British Artists who emerged in 1988. Her works frequently employ visual puns and bawdy humour by incorporating photography, sculpture, collage and found objects.
Sarah Lucas debuted with a solo exhibition at City Racing, London (1992), followed by shows at Barbara Gladstone Gallery, New York (1995), Tate Liverpool (2005–2006), and Whitechapel Gallery, London (2013). Her work appeared in Sensation at the Royal Academy (1997), the 50th Venice Biennale (2003), and retrospectives at The New Museum, New York (2018), and Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2019). Recent exhibitions include Big Women at Firstsite Gallery, Colchester (2023), and a solo show at Tate Britain (2023). In 2024, Kunsthalle Mannheim will present her latest solo exhibition.
