Mikhail Ignatiev is the Russian artist, a representative of the Russian genre painting of the early XIX. Since childhood he had an inclination to arts. From 1892 – 1897 he became irregular student to the Moscow school of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, where he studied under the guidance of famous masters, A. E. Arkhipov and N. A. Kasatkin. In 1897, he entered the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, where he studied with V. Makovsky. In 1901, his picture “Fatal yield” (now located in the assembly of the Yaroslavl Art Museum), the artist was awarded the title of the artist.

M. Ignatiev has participated in exhibitions of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts, the Moscow Society of Art enthusiasts, the Petrograd Society of Artists, and many other associations. In spirit and beliefs, M. I. Ignatiev was close to artists, Itinerant. It is on the association shows the most frequently appearing paintings the artist: “The artist with the Bride” (1900), “Failed “(1902),”Fell asleep “(1903),” From War “(1905), “In the artist’s studio” (1908), “March Morning” (1910), Dunja (1911), “Nurse” (1913), “The Mill” (1914), ” The newspaper in the village “(1915),” The diseased girlfriend “(1917). After the 1917 revolution, M. Ignatiev taught drawing and painting bases in the secondary schools and colleges of Leningrad. He took part in the XXVI exhibition of the Society of Artists in Petrograd (1918), in Kozmodemyanskaya first exhibition of paintings, studies, etudes and drawings (1920). Works by the artist we can find in number of museums and private collections, among them – Dnepropetrovsk Art Museum.
